325 participants got on their bicycles or put on their walking shoes yesterday to raise money for research into metabolic diseases during the 12th edition of the Stofwisseltour. And what an edition! Goosebumps and emotion alternated. Not only with a record revenue of € 190,800, but also sporting achievements and valuable memories.

The Stofwisseltour is an annual event that offers participants the opportunity to cycle 160, 120, 80 or 40 kilometers, mountain bike 60 kilometers or walk 5, 10, 15 or 20 kilometers. The Stofwisseltour was organized again this year from Boerderij de Weistaar in Maarsbergen.

At 08:30, the participants of the 160 kilometers were the first to leave the start and finish area at Boerderij de Weistaar in Maarsbergen to cycle 4 routes of 40 kilometers. Then the other participants left throughout the day to take on their challenge. Every route passed 't Stofwissellaantje (Metabolic Lane) where the trees were decorated with portraits of children who are now dealing with a metabolic disease or have lost the battle. An emotional moment for the parents, brothers, sisters and other participants. But they could also enjoy the beautiful forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, rolling hills, winding paths, picturesque villages, dense forests and beautiful dune and heath areas. During the finish, the participants were warmly welcomed by family, friends and children with a metabolic disorder who could not participate due to their health. Then it was time for the participants to hang their last earned ribbon on their memento and take a group photo. Emotions ran high when the children with a metabolic disorder, together with their brothers and sisters, announced the amount raised with their own colored numbers. The proceeds of € 190,800 will be used by Metakids, Patient Association VKS, Stichting Energy4All, Stichting Join4Energy and Stichting Stofwisselkracht for more research into metabolic diseases.
